My reservation and how do I pay a deposit?

After we receive your booking request, we will respond by e-mail, letter or telephone, offering you whatever rooms are available for the appropriate time. It will then only remain for you to confirm your reservation by making a deposit of £50 - £100. All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Switch, Amex) are accepted, or you may be happier to send a cheque. We in turn will notify you of your booking reference after the deposit has been received. Unfortunately, we cannot hold rooms without a deposit, particularly at busy times of year. Please note that under our cancellation policy all deposits are non-refundable.

Cancellation policy?

Under the terms of our standard cancellation policy, cancellation within 14 days of the booked day of arrival will result in the payment of the full value of the booking becoming immediately due. In the event of cancellation more than 14 days before the booked arrival day, the liability will be limited to the value of the deposit already taken (or to £50 per person if no such deposit has been taken). Deposits are always non-refundable and will be deemed to constitute part of any cancellation charge. (Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for Standard Bookings for full details.) More important, we very much hope that you will not need to cancel!

We strongly recommend that our guests take out travel insurance to cover unavoidable cancellations.

Important: Your booking will be considered cancelled from 8.00pm on the date of your arrival unless we have been contacted to inform us of your late arrival.

How to find us...

How to find Greshornish House (and the problems with sat-navs!)

Once on Skye, whether via the bridge or the Mallaig/Armadale ferry, follow the A87 to Portree. From Portree, keep on the A87 North-west out of Portree towards Uig and Dunvegan; after 4 miles, at Borve, fork left onto the A 850 for Dunvegan.

Follow this road for about 10 miles and you will pass the village of Edinbane at the head of Loch Greshornish. A mile after Edinbane Greshornish House is signposted to the right, 2½ miles down a single track road. Just keep going - but please watch out for the sheep, especially at lambing time!

If you are arriving by ferry to Uig, follow the A 87 south towards Portree. After 11 miles, at Borve, turn off right onto the A850 for Dunvegan. Then as above.

How long will it take?

We are a little over an hour from the Skye Bridge, an hour and twenty minutes from Armadale, twenty minutes from Portree, and forty minutes from Uig.

...and the problems with sat-navs?

Many guests using sat-navs to get here have reported they are sent to Mallaig, regardless of whether the ferry is sailing or not! Unless you intend on 'sailing your car over the sea to Skye' you should programme your sat nav route via the Kyle of Lochalsh. Alternatively, check the ferry times and book a sailing.

Distances from major cities and airports

Greshornish House is approximately 3 hours by road from Fort William, 3 hours from Inverness, 5 hours from Glasgow and Stirling, and 6 hours from Edinburgh. Skye Bridge is an hour away, whilst Portree and Dunvegan Castle are only 20 minutes from us in either direction!

Whilst you're here...

Do you accept pets?

Yes, mostly, but there are conditions. We welcome dogs by prior arrangement, but ask that they do not get taken into public rooms, nor should they be left unaccompanied in rooms. Dogs should bring their own beds and towels! A nominal charge of £10 is made. We do have our own dogs, but they are kept out of the public rooms and areas in the house used by guests.

Mobile phone reception

Signal strength in this area of Skye is very patchy, and there are many places in which mobile phones do not work. There is reception for some networks in the garden and grounds, but not in the house itself.

Is there Broadband connection?

Guests are able to access the internet dial-up connection in their rooms, and in addition they can be given access to a Broadband connection in Reception if they have their own laptop. We do not have Wi-fi.

The pattern of the day...

Breakfast is normally served between 8.30 and 9.30 am daily. If breakfast is required earlier than this, for example to fit in with ferry timings, a continental breakfast can easily be arranged. Please inform Reception before 9.00 pm the evening before.

Coffee and tea are available throughout the day on request at reception.

Lunch: Soup and sandwiches or a light lunch is available daily in the Conservatory between 12.00 and 2.00pm. A-la-Carte seafood lunches are a feature of the summer months.

Afternoon Tea is served in the Conservatory between 4.00 and 5.00 pm.

Dinner is served between 7.00 - 9.00 pm.

General useful information...

Smoking policy

Smoking is now illegal in all public places in the United Kingdom. Greshornish House is now totally non-smoking.

Should we find that guests have been smoking in their bedrooms, we reserve the right to charge an extra night's bed and breakfast without further notice. This will enable us to carry out the additional cleaning and fumigation necessary to bring the room back to the standard that other guests have a right to expect. We very much hope that this will not be necessary.

How far back can the history of Greshornish House be traced?

The history can be traced back to 1250, when the Greshornish Estate belonged to the MacLeods of Dunvegan.
